HBO reveals star-studded cast for new 'Harry Potter' TV series

HBO has officially announced the first cast members for its upcoming 'Harry Potter' TV series. Among the newly announced regulars of the series are John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. Luke Thallon will be seen in the recurring role of Quirinus Quirrell, while Paul Whitehouse will appear as Hogwarts caretaker Argus Filch in the new adaptation. The series is written and produced by Francesca Gardiner, who also serves as showrunner and co-directs the production with director Mark Mylod. Gardiner and Mylod praised the 'exceptional talents' involved in the cast and expressed their excitement to 'bring these beloved characters to life'. The search for Harry, Ron, and Hermione continues as over 30,000 applications have been received in response to the open casting call. Filming is set to begin this summer. HBO describes the series as a 'faithful adaptation' of the original 'Harry Potter' book series. Each season will delve deep into the world of wizards and bring the story to life for both new viewers and longtime fans of the series. J.K. Rowling serves as executive producer. The series is being developed in collaboration with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television.
