Val Kilmer's cause of death has been confirmed, one week after the 'Top Gun' star passed away at the age of 65. As reported by TMZ, the death certificate from the Los Angeles County Department of Health lists pneumonia as the cause of death. Kilmer's daughter had previously revealed that he was battling the illness. Other contributing factors included acute hypoxemic respiratory failure, chronic respiratory failure, and a squamous cell carcinoma at the base of the tongue. The actor also suffered from malnutrition and a tracheocutaneous fistula, a hole in his neck connecting the windpipe to the skin. Kilmer, who was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014, underwent a tracheostomy that led to the loss of his voice. He was cremated on April 7, and his family expressed their gratitude while also requesting privacy. Brolin referred to Kilmer as an 'overly creative firework' and Cruise held a moment of silence in his honor at CinemaCon.
