Singer Elton John has revealed that he has been unable to see anything since July, after an eye infection left him with "only limited vision in one eye". In September 2024, the 78-year-old shared on Instagram that he was suffering from a "severe eye infection" that would take "some time" to recover from. In an interview with the London Times, the British superstar said that his loss of vision has caused a lot of stress and made him "emotional". "I can no longer see my boys playing rugby and football, and it has been a very stressful time because I am used to taking everything in. You become emotional, but you have to get used to it because I am lucky to have the life I have; I still have my wonderful family, and I can still see something out of [my left eye]. So you tell yourself: 'Just keep going'," said the singer. In November 2024, John revealed that the infection he contracted while staying in the south of France could affect his ability to make music, making him feel "stuck". Despite his vision problems, he recently released a joint album with singer Brandi Carlile titled 'Who Believes In Angels?'. Carlile and John worked together with producer Andrew Watt and songwriter Bernie Taupin on the album, with the singer admitting that they "did not all agree". John admitted that he almost gave up on the album due to fatigue and said that he was feeling "fear" and "self-doubt" at the time. John and Carlile recently presented their new album in London, although he had announced in July 2023 that he would be retiring from touring.
