The actor Jean-Claude Van Damme is facing court in Romania. He is accused of having sexual relationships with women who were abducted by a criminal group led by Morel Bolea. An allegation submitted to the Romanian Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) claims that the actor knowingly accepted five Romanian women as a 'gift' at an event in Cannes. Lawyer Adrian Cuculis, representing one of the victims, stated that the women were in a vulnerable state and may have been exploited under Romanian criminal law. A witness reportedly testified, prompting the prosecution to launch an investigation. The case is linked to a broader inquiry into human trafficking and the trafficking of minors ongoing since 2020. The Supreme Court of Cassation in France must approve the criminal proceedings before suspects, including Van Damme, can be summoned for questioning in Romania. Neither Van Damme's representatives nor the DIICOT have responded to requests for comment.
