From April 3rd to 6th, the alpine ski racers gather for the season finale, specifically for the International German Alpine Ski Championships 2025 in Axamer Lizum (AUT). The downhill race kicked off on Thursday. The favorite prevailed among the women, while there was a surprise among the men. After a lot of fresh snow, the International German Ski Alpine Championships can begin on Thursday, April 3, 2025. The women start with the downhill race. The 29-year-old Kira Weidle-Winkelmann, from Starnberg, started as the top favorite. She had been struggling with a difficult season until then. First, she had a training crash at the beginning of the season in Beaver Creek (USA) and then had a serious fall a month ago at the World Cup in Kvitfjell, Norway. The season had been without a podium finish until then. However, she can win the last race of the season with almost a second lead. For Weidle-Winkelmann, it was already her fifth German championship title in downhill (2016, 2019, 2021, and 2023). Weidle-Winkelmann's biggest success so far was the silver medal at the 2021 World Championships in Cortina d'Ampezzo. In the men's category, the youngster Luis Vogt (Junior World Championships 2023 bronze in downhill) surprisingly wins ahead of the veteran Romed Baumann. Vogt achieved his best World Cup result on December 20, 2024, when he finished 16th in the Super-G in Gröden. Baumann falls short of Vogt by 51 hundredths at the end, with third place going to Valentin Jachmann. Romed Baumann holds dual citizenship of Austria and Germany. Since the 2019/2020 season, he has been competing for Germany. He won silver in the Super-G for the German Ski Association (DSV) in Cortina d'Ampezzo in 2021.
