Vehicle fire in Eschenbach: Car catches fire while driving: Eschenbach i.d.OPf., April 17, 2025 - At around 10:50 a.m., a vehicle fire occurred on Stadtberg in Eschenbach. An 89-year-old car driver initially did not notice that her vehicle had caught fire. Alert motorists tried to warn her of the danger by flashing their lights in oncoming traffic. Burning vehicle parts were already detaching on the outward-leading Kirchenthumbacher Straße. The driver eventually steered her car into the parking lot of a supermarket. There, she was alerted by passersby that flames were blazing in the area of the right rear tire. By the time the police and fire department of Eschenbach i.d.OPf. arrived, the fire had already spread to the entire vehicle and also affected a neighboring parked car. The Eschenbach fire department was able to quickly bring the fire under control. However, both vehicles were so heavily damaged that they had to be towed away. The cause of the fire has not yet been definitively determined. According to initial assessments, a defect in the braking system could have triggered the fire. The resulting property damage is estimated at around 25,000 euros. No one was injured.
